SmartReinforcement – Instrumented Carbon Reinforcement Laminates for Strengthening and Monitoring of Concrete Structures
The main purpose is to develop carbon fiber laminates that include optical fiber sensors for structural strengthening and monitoring. A strengthening technique, based on introducing these laminates into thin slits opened on the concrete cover of the elements to be strengthened, will be developed. The high performance of this technique was already assessed on the flexural strengthening of concrete structures but preliminary tests have indicated that this performance can be still more significant for the shear strengthening of reinforced concrete beams.
